This application is for my current casting pool which only opens once a year.
When applications open, I collect submissions for a limited time to build my casting pool for the upcoming year. Once I receive enough applications, submissions will close, and I'll select participants from that pool over the following 12 months.
Because of the number of applications I receive, submitting an application does not guarantee a feature. I carefully review every application and reach out to people who are the best fit for upcoming episodes. Sometimes I may contact you within a few weeks, but it can also take up to a year. If you don't hear from me right away, it doesn't necessarily mean you aren't a good fit. I simply may not have gotten to your application yet.
If your situation changes after you apply—such as moving, losing a cat, or making a significant change to your home—please email me at info@girlsandtheircats.com so I can update your application.
Please read the application carefully and answer each question as thoroughly as possible. The more I know about you, your cats, and your home, the easier it is for me to determine whether you'd be a good fit for a future episode.
Before You Apply
Your cat(s) must be rescued or adopted.
All women and non-binary cat people are welcome to apply.
Filming takes place during the day (approximately 10:00 AM–5:00 PM).
Filming is very low-key—it's just me and my iPhone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you only casting in Brooklyn and Manhattan?
I film every episode by myself using public transportation. To keep filming days manageable, I need participants who are within about an hour of my apartment by subway.
I've applied before. Can I apply again?
Yes! Homes change, cats change, and I may be looking for something different this year than I was last year.
I was featured on the Girls and Their Cats blog years ago. Can I still apply?
Absolutely! Being featured on the blog does not affect your eligibility for a Cat Lady Home Tour.
Can I apply if I don't have a lot of catification or a huge apartment?
Yes! I'm not looking for the "perfect" home. Every episode is different, and I'm interested in homes of all sizes and styles. Sometimes it's the cats, the rescue story, the cat art, or the creative use of space that makes a home a great fit.
Why do the cats need to be rescued or adopted?
I want to support the rescue efforts of all the hard-working people in animal welfare and encourage the adopt-don’t-shop movement.
What if my cat doesn't like strangers?
Many cats are cautious around new people, and that's completely normal! I give cats time and space to adjust. However, because the cats are the focus of the series, I do need them to be comfortable enough to appear on camera.
What makes a great Cat Lady Home Tour?
There's no single formula! I look for a combination of interesting cats, thoughtful homes, meaningful rescue stories, cat art, creative spaces, and people who are excited to share their lives. Every episode is different, so don't worry if your home doesn't look like someone else's.
How long does filming take?
Most home tours take around 1.5 -2 hours to film, depending on the amount of cat stuff you have and how comfortable your cats are with me filming.
Will I get paid to be featured?
No. Cat Lady Home Tours are volunteer-based, and participants are not compensated.
What happens after I submit my application?
If your home is a good fit for an upcoming episode, I'll reach out by email to discuss scheduling. Because I cast from the same application pool throughout the year, you may hear from me several months after applying.
Will you contact me if I'm not selected?
Due to the number of applications I receive, I'm not able to contact everyone individually. If you aren't featured this year, you're always welcome to apply again when applications reopen.
What is the deadline to apply?
There is no set deadline. Applications will remain open until I have received enough submissions to build my casting pool for the year. Once submissions close, I won't reopen applications until the following year.
How do you choose who gets featured?
I look for a combination of things: meaningful rescue stories, unique homes, cat art, creative spaces, and people who are excited to share their lives with the Girls and Their Cats community. There isn't one specific type of home or cat I'm looking for—every episode is different.
